A Bit About Me

Carlos Zayas is the COO and Co-Founder of IdioMasters LLC, a San Antonio-based company specialized in aiding organizations and individuals in a multicultural and multilingual environment established in 2015. Through IdioMasters he is able to provide consultation to those needing guidance in the international marketplace.

Carlos began his career at the Ministry of Economic Development of the State of Puebla, Mexico in 2000 where he served until 2006. During this time he assisted in various departments, including International Trade and Foreign Investment, Local Trade and Regional Economic Development; and International Suppliers Development.

He joined Grupo CETEC in June 2007 where he served as International Academic Director. Carlosā€‹’ duties and responsibilities stretched across all 57 learning centers located throughout Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and USA, to ensure pedagogical and course offering consistency. Carlos was also Research and Language Education Director for Crossing Borders, where he was in charge of curriculum development of its 6 locations in the State of Texas.

Carlos was born in Puebla, Mexico, he earned a Bachelor Degree in Japanese Language from the University of Tenri, Japan; and a Bachelor Degree in International Trade with a concentration in Negotiation and Culture from the University of Puebla, Mexico. He holds several certificates for his knowledge on languages including: two from the University of Cambridge; one from Trinity College London; four from the Ministry of Education of France and two from the Japan Foundation.

In his spare time, Carlos enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and reading; his favorite subject is World History.

Specifically, my duties and responsibilities include: developing and managing academic budgets and budget line items; defining objectives relating to revenue, profitability, pricing structure, utilization, and realization; forecasting; directing the market penetration and promotional activities; being in charge of the management of operations; determining the need for personnel and evaluating professional and non-professional contractors; examining the market for commercial opportunities, negotiating professional contracts; undertaking the financial analysis of proposed professional services and academic programs; assessing the market demand for the same; directing the academic course offerings and curriculum; developing and introducing the proper working/teaching policies and guidelines for foreign language translators and instructors; developing evaluation standards and success; and other usual managerial duties.

Some of my main responsibilities were developing, directing and managing all foreign language and cultural programs and course offerings; defining optimum staffing levels, developing teacher training and qualification programs, managing/directing the administration of these programs and conferring Certificates; evaluating employees and staff to ensure that the most current pedagogical standards were followed and that teaching methodologies were consistent.

In this position, I had ultimate responsibility over the language offerings of 57 locations in the United States, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador, its curriculum, course materials, teaching methodology and deliverables, as well as ensuring consistency throughout the company by the professional teaching staff.

During my time in this position, I served in several of the Ministry’s core Departments including: the Office of International Commerce and Foreign Investment (2000-2002), the Office of Domestic Commerce and Regional Development (2002-2003), the Department of Artisan Development (2003-2004) and the Department of Suppliers Development (2004-2006) where I was in charge of the match-making agenda for the State of Puebla as well as the organization of International Trade Fairs.
